ICT enablement

There remain a general belief that technology can and will bring instant relief for many organisational problems. Stated more accurately information systems technically focus upon data acceleration (faster delivery of information). Although technological enablement does introduce incredible efficiencies, it may often result in heavy losses from a systemic perspective. Within our Business Architecture Tool (BAT®), technology represents one major component or sub-system, but only as far as it support and lend itself to enhancing the overall result (emergence, meaning 1+1 >2). As an example, few organisations understand that introducing new technology impacts both people and process to the extent that it may sometimes generate a negative overall effect. Our approach is very simple, we remain OEM agnostic since alliances to software vendors often result in promoting technology, simply to extract greater revenues from clients. As an organisation we do not sell technology product, instead we use appropriate technological enablement, based upon project and client specific constraints. Some of our key capabilities in the information technology environment include:

  • Bespoke Development work – predominantly in web-centric technologies (Java, C++, etc.)
  • Integration; Attentuation& Amplification; Migration work – when clients require conversion from older technologies to newer ones, as well as integrating disparate software applications

Decision support toolset

The strategic work and business architectural insights have allowed us to embed a lot of our work, models and algorithms into various types of technologies. One such “product” is the decision support toolset (DST). It is bespoke Business Intelligence (BI) software geared toward creating intelligence from various sources of data, and presenting this in a format that fosters “pro-active” decision-making. One of our largest applications was to map and monitor key infrastructure delivery elements of an entire country. The software logic and business rules are architecturally flexible and tailor-made, and customized to business or project requirements.

Business rule engines

This is another “product” offering that stems from our BAT® framework involving deeper understanding of problem statements, and creating a range of business rules that are executed automatically, through specific algorithms to deliver the output required. We have applied this product to three different sectors or industries.

BAT compliance

The level of integrated business architecture across all interventions is on the average extremely low. The underlying reasons are primarily (a) Vendor lock-in strategies; (b) Inaccessibility of systemic knowledge and experts; (c) Skilled incompetence (dogmatic beliefs of leadership based upon educational background); (d) Reluctance to change and fear of innovation (“first mover’s” are rare); (e) Does not appreciate the difference between data acceleration and data intelligence; (f) Obsession with off-the-shelf products by foreign OEM’s;

The following graphics depict the level of compliance to an ideal Business Architecture and references the importance of systemic integration, if corporations are to make meaningful differences to society as opposed to mimicking one another.
